War Horse London War Horse London is a Laurence Olivier Award winning play based on the novel of the same name by Michael Morpurgo, ex-children's laureate. The War Horse play is set during World War One, and tells the story of Joey the horse and his young owner Albert. Joey is sold into the cavalry at the beginning of the war, and starts a treacherous journey towards the trenches of France. There, he finds himself alone and lost in no- man's land, while Albert begins a journey of his own to find Joey and bring him home. The War Horse theatre production is a classic, with a strong cast that includes Alex Avery as Captain Nicholls, Joshua Blake as John Grieg, and Pascale Burgess as Paulette. The show uses life-sized puppets made by the Handspring Puppet Company to portray Joey and the other horses, as well as other animals. They add a very powerful element to the performance, making the action life-like an adding a strong emotional element. War Horse combines top-class acting and puppetry to tell a heart-rending story set during a defining period of our history. The play is showing at the New London Theatre on Drury Lane in the West End, with performances every day except Sundays. There is an evening performance every day at 7.30 pm, and a matinee performance at 2.30 pm on Thursdays and Sundays. Tickets for War Horse can be bought in either the stalls or the circle.
